Today, you told me you love me.
For you it was nothing, you’ve been telling me you love me in so many tiny ways since you were born, in the smiles you gave and the toys you handed me.
Hearing your words today, both a warm hug and a sharp sting.
You’ve grown so much.
I’m so proud of who you are and who you will become.
You’re not the baby I bounced for hours, trying to get you to sleep. You’re not the tiny, wriggly newborn; or the wobbly 1 year old taking her first steps.
You’re now your own person, with your own wants and dreams.
It’s an inbetweeny kind of grown up.
You still need me to put on your shoes. You don’t want me to help you down the stairs. You want me to hold you when there’s a loud noise. You don’t need my help climbing the slide.
So much has changed and will continue to change.
No matter how big you get, I’ll always be there to hold you when you need me.
I love you too, sweetheart.
Sometimes we have to slow down and make note of these moments.
Hey Mum!
Mama-hood can be wild, all the little moments whizz past and before you know it boom, you have a 2 year old, red in the face because you said no to their 452nd request of a snack (it’s only 9am).
Mama Tip: Keep your little Mama memories in a daily journal. It’s doesn’t have to be much, just a sentence a day.
A tiny moment you don’t want to slip away into the back of your memories.
This can be anywhere, notes in your phone, part of your diary or planner, or a journal dedicated only to these moments.
I love to journal, I write almost every day in mine. But some important moments get lost in the every day stuff. This is one of the reasons why I created The New Mama Journal. A little space to write in everyday for the first year.
You can find the New Mama Journal here.
Or, if you’re looking to keep a note of all the exciting things your toddler is up to, Dear Toddler is the one for you!
